Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ Marlborough Pinot Gris 2010

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Jan-2013
Hand-picked fruit from the original Pinot Gris vines in the ‘Johnson Estate' ‘C' block, fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc. and 31 g/L rs, the wine aged 7 months on lees. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, pale on rim. Initially tight, the bouquet is intensely packed with aromas of yellow florals, pears, honey and minerals that exude a subtle decadence. Medium in sweetness and full in weight, ripe and lush flavours of yellow stonefruits, honey and a hint of caramel are harmoniously entwined and show excellent presence, enhanced somewhat by warm alcohol generosity and power. Soft and oily in mouthfeel, and restrained in acidity, there is an underlying phenolic line that carries the flavours and richness to a sustained, rounded finish. This is a full and powerful, but smooth, rich an lush Pinot Gris to match pates, rich Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine and semi-hard cheeses over the next 3-5 years. 18.5+/20 Jan 2013 RRP $29.95
