Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2012

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Jan-2013
Hand-picked fruit fro the original plantings of Alsace clones on the ‘G' block of ‘Johnson Estate'. Fermented on oak to 14.0% alc. and 32 g/L rs. Bright straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The bouquet is softly full and densely concentrated with warm aromas of stonefruit kernels, perfumed musk, exotic fruits and ginger with rose petal nuances in the background. Medium in sweetness and full-bodied, a smooth and seamless texture is the feature on the palate. Rich and luscious flavours of exotic fruits, creaming soda and musk build, resulting in an oily and unctuous mouthfeel. Though the acidity is soft, this has real presence and drive, and the palate flows to a powerful and long finish with superbly integrated flavours and rich componentry that exudes exotic floral and spice nuances. This is an outstanding, seamlessly smooth and rich Gewurztraminer to serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine, or with a variety of moderately firm cheeses over the next 4-5+ years. 19.0+/20 Jan 2013 RRP $29.95
