Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Jan-2013
Bright, even straw-yellow colour, pale on edge. This has a powerfully rich nose of citrus and peach fruit with a complex overlay of creamy, buttery, nutty MLF and oak aromas that unfold revealing smoke, toast and flinty minerals. Full-bodied, but elegantly proportioned, a complex flavour amalgam of citrus fruits, butterscotch, nuts and toast fills the palate, and is supported by an underlying alcohol drive with fine acid cut. The mouthfeel has a soft robustness and fulsome presence, and detailed nuances of nutty, oxidative elements emerge with smoke and toast that carry through to a long, dry finish. This is a fulsome and complex flavoured Chardonnay featuring citrus, cream and nutty flavours. Match with roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5+ years. Clone 95 and 15 from the ‘Johnson Estate' ‘B' block, hand-picked, WBP and fully old barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged for 18 months I oak on lees. 18.5-/20 Jan 2013 RRP $39.95
