Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ ‘Johnson Vineyard’ Waihopi Valley Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 21-Jan-2015
Bordeaux clone fruit from the ‘Johnson Estate River Block’ from select rows, hand-picked and fermented in wood to 13.5% alc. and 1.5 g/L RS, the wine aged 11 months in wood on lees. Full, even, light straw-yellow colour, paler on edge. This bouquet is full and voluminous with open and accessible aromas of fresh green stonefruits and nectarines with a complex and harmonious amalgam of flinty and minerally lees and reduction with nuances of oak toast and herb elements at the core. Dry to taste and medium to medium-full bodied, a well-concentrated core of green stonefruits, nectarines and herbs is the feature on palate. Complex nuances of lees, minerals and oak unfold in detailed layers. The mouthfeel is refined in texture, and lively and refreshingly bright. The palate has a slippery flow with the lacy acidity and some alcohol drive contributing to the energy. The wine carries through to a long and sustained, well-concentrated, substantial finish. This is a lively and bright, oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with a fine, tight core and complexing detail. Match with herb-marinated seafood, poultry and pork, and with Mediterranean fare over the next 3-4+ years. 18.5/20 Jan 2015 RRP $32.00
