Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ ‘Johnson Vineyard’ Waihopi Valley Marlborough Dry Riesling 2013

Riesling from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 10-Oct-2014
Straw-yellow colour. The nose exudes richness from its firm core. Lime and an array of citrus fruits with suggestions of honey and yellow florals. Dry to taste, full bodied presence and with weight as well as intensity. Complex in its citrus, floral and stonefruit flavours, leading to honied and toast elements. 6-7+ years. Fruit from the original plantings from the ‘Johnson Vineyard D Block’, hand-picked in 2 passes, WBP and fermented in oak to 14.0% alc. and 4.2 g/L RS, with TA 7.4 g/L and pH 3.1, the wine aged 8 months on light lees. 19.0/20 Oct 2014 RRP $25.25 Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, pale on rim. The nose is intensely penetrating with aromas of ripe limes and lemons, along with subtly rich layers of exotic florals and honeysuckle, alongside mouth-watering wet stone and mineral nuances. Dry to taste, wonderfully clear lime fruit flavours unfold to reveal exotic jasmine florals, minerals and musk. The palate is intensely concentrated with real fruit extract and weight, and rounded in mouthfeel, becoming near-unctuous in flow. Excellent acid balance and a finely textured phenolic line provide cut and drive, leading to a dry, crisp and sustained finish. This is a concentrated dry Riesling with plenty of fruit extract, and exotic floral and musk flavours. Serve as an aperitif and with Asian fare over the next 5-6 years.
