Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ ‘Johnson Vineyard’ Waihopi Valley Dry Riesling 2014

Riesling from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 22-Dec-2015
Bright, light lemon-straw yellow colour with pale golden hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is soft and densely concentrated with a core of savoury lime and white stonefruits unfolding soft flinty, nutty, and minerally lees complexities and detail. The nose is restrained in aromatic expression, but underlined by a subtle floral freshness. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate features a firm core of white stonefruits limes and savoury, nutty, mineral flavours. The texture of the lees and phenolics is balanced by emerging fruit sweetness, and is driven somewhat by the alcoholic power. The wine flow smoothly, following a positive line with lively acidity picking up from the receding flavours, leading to a lingering, taut, dry finish with stonefruit and mineral notes. This is a full-bodied dry Riesling with stonefruit, lime and minerally lees flavours, a firm core and fresh mouthfeel. Serve with poultry, pork and veal over the next 4-5+ years. Clean, ripe fruit from the ‘Lodge Block’, vines planted 2009, hand-picked, given skin contact and indigenous yeast fermented in oak over 5 months to 13.5% alc. and 3.0 g/L RS, TA 6.0 g/L and pH 3.29, and aged on gross lees for another 5 months. The wine underwent full MLF. 18.0-/20 Dec 2015 RRP $29.90
