Spy Valley ‘Envoy’ ‘Johnson Estate’ Waihopi Valley Marlborough Pinot Gris 2013

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Nov-2015
Brilliant, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour. This has a full and concentrated bouquet of bright, lifted, aromatic yellow florals, ripe exotic pear and tropical fruits, and honey all harmoniously entwined. The fruit is fresh and high-toned with lush honied elements and vitality. Very sweet to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and unctuous in texture with a rounded and dense core of ripe tropical fruit and pears, along with lifted yellow florals and honey. This has weight and density, the soft textures enhanced by low acidity. The alcohol is well-integrated and provides good drive and power. The wine flows positively to a plush, near opulent, long, lingering finish. This is a rich, medium-sweet Pinot Gris with rich and near opulent flavours of tropical fruits, pears and exotic, lifted florals. Match with spicy Middle Eastern and Asian fare, and with fruit desserts over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Johnson Vineyard C Block’, hand-picked and fermented in oak to 14.5% alc. and 60 g/L RS, the wine aged 6 months on lees. 19.0-/20 RRP $29.90
