Spinyback Nelson Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 01-Nov-2015
Bright, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on edge. The nose is tightly bound with fresh aromas of dark red berry and cherry fruit entwined with a fine herbal line along with lifted dark red and violet florals, unveiling nuances of spice and liquorice. Medium-full bodied, elegantly concentrated, but sweet and juicy flavours of dark cherry and berry fruit feature on the palate forming a firm line. The fruit is underlined by fine-grained tannin extraction adding to the linear structure. Balancing acidity lends a gentle freshness, and along with some alcoholic power drives the palate. The wine leads to a long and concentrated finish with raspberry liqueur notes and a suggestion of minerally reduction. This is a tightly bound, elegant, juicy-fruited Pinot Noir with cherry and berry fruit and a fine, firm, structured line. Match with poultry, pork and lamb over the next 4-5+ years. Estate fruit from the Waimea Plains fermented on open top vats and ‘Ganimede’ tanks with a portion of whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in oak. 17.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $17.00
