Spinyback Nelson Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 09-Oct-2014
Even, light ruby-red colour with some youthful purple hues. The nose is fresh with a soft volume of uncomplicated strawberry fruit intermixed with gentle herbal notes, unfolding ethereal floral and raspberry nuances with aeration. Medium-bodied, the flavours of strawberries and red berry fruits are entwined with cooler spectrum herbal nuances. The fruit is enlivened by brisk and lacy acidity and the mouthfeel features a light tannin line that provides a supporting core and a degree of linear drive. The palate carries through to a taut, dry finish. This is a light, slender, strawberry and herb-fruited Pinot Noir with lacy, fresh acidity. Serve with antipasto, tapas, seafood and poultry over the next 3 years. Fruit from the Waimea Plains, given a cold soak and fermented with a portion of whole berries in open top vats and Ganimede tanks to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in oak. 16.5/20 Oct 2014 RRP $18.00 Pinot Noir fruit given a cold soak and fermented with a portion of whole berries in open top vats and closed ‘Ganimede’ tanks to 13.5% alc., the wine matured in oak. Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is softly voluminous with aromas of strawberry fruit, savoury red berries, lifted by red florals, revealing some herbal notes in the glass. Medium-bodied, light flavours of strawberries, red fruits florals and herbs form a core with some lusciousness. The flavours are open and unfold, showing some cedary oak notes. The extraction is modest and light, and soft tannins sit alongside the fruit. Good acid freshness provides liveliness and carries the light fruit flavours to the dry, gentle finish. This is a light bodied Pinot Noir with up-front strawberry fruit flavours. Serve with firm-flesh seafood and poultry over the next 3+ years. 16.5+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $20.00
