Speri ‘La Roverina’ Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2011

Other Red from Italy - Veneto
Review Date : 14-Oct-2013
Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with some purple hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is light with straightforward, but positive aromas of fragrant dark cherry fruit and nuances of nuts and earthy minerals, building with depth in the glass. Medium-light bodied, the fruit flavours of dark bitter cherries and nuts follow an elegant palate line supported by light, fine-grained tannin extraction. Acidity and alcohol is present and provides momentum to the palate flow. The mouthfeel reveals some depth and good vinosity, and the flavours are carried to a soft-textured finish underlined by lacy acidity. This is a light-bodied, classic Valpolicella with soft, supple tannins and fresh palate. Match with antipasto, tapas and poultry over the next 3+ years. 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 5% each of Molinara and Oselata from the 9.8 ha ‘La Roverina’ site, Negrar, from vines averaging 14 y.o., fermented to 12.5% alc. and 4 g/L RS, the wine on skins 10 days and aged 12 months in 50 hl oak barrels. 17.5-/20 Oct 2013 RRP $26.99
