Spade Oak ‘Voysey’ Gisborne Syrah 2015
Syrah from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 22-Aug-2017
Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge with slight garnet tints. The nose is elegantly presented with gently voluminous aromas of raspberry fruit along with fragrant yellow florals and apricot elements, lifted by red florals, unfolding a little liquorice and spice from the core. Medium-full bodied, the palate soft, juicy and lush with aromatic flavours of red florals and dark raspberry fruit along with lifted yellow floral and stonefruit notes. The flavours form a rounded, but concentrated core, and the fruit is supported by supple tannin extraction and integrated acidity. The wine flows smoothly along a light, textured line to a fragrant, lingering finish. This is a supple, juicy Syrah with raspberry fruit intermixed with Viognier florals, on a supple palate with light textures and good linearity. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4 years. A blend of 88% Syrah and 10% Viognier co-fermented with 2% St Laurent and Tempranillo, 10% of the Viognier and 35% of the Syrah fermented as whole bunches, with 55% of the Syrah as uncrushed berries to 13.5% alc., all the wine aged 18 months in French oak with 40% new equivalence. 17.5-/20 Aug 2017 RRP $19.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates.
