Spade Oak ‘Voysey’ Gisborne Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 24-Feb-2015
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, very youthful in appearance. This has a full, open and accessible nose of rich, ripe dark raspberry and blackberry fruit flavours along with savoury floral, jam and spice elements, leather and game interest, black pepper and bacon-nuanced oak. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, the flavours of black and red berry fruits are tightly concentrated with a core melded with spices, pepper and oak. The mouthfeel is brisk, racy and zesty from prominent acidity. Fine-grained tannins carry the fruit and palate to a long, lingering, spicy, cedary finish. Open and aromatic on nose this is a tightly concentrated and fine-grained Syrah with spicy and cedary flavours and a racy mouthfeel. Match with barbecued and roasted red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard Syrah co-fermented with 5% Viognier and blended with 8% St Laurent, the wine 12.9% alc. and aged 12 months in 15% new French oak equivalence. 17.5-/20 Feb 2015 RRP $19.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
