Spade Oak ‘Voysey’ Gisborne Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 20-Oct-2015
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden hues and some depth. The nose is elegantly concentrated with aromas of melons and citrus fruits, along with aromatic yellow stonefruits entwined with spicy oak and layers of lemon-curd MLF. Some underlying nutty and creamy elements unfold as the MLF notes blossom. Medium-bodied, this has an elegant core of melons, peaches and citrus fruits, the wine showing good richness and succulence. The fruit sweetness is enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity and the mouthfeel is bright and energetic. Layers of spicy, nutty oak unfold, with plenty of lemon-curd and buttery MLF flavour. The palate core flows along a subtly-textured line leading to long, dry finish with oak and MLF notes. This is an elegant Chardonnay with lively, aromatic, citrus and melon fruit, along with nutty and lemon-curd MLF flavours. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 3+ years. A blend of 88% Chardonnay and 12% Viognier, fruit 70% from the ‘Ashwood’ vineyard and 30% ‘Spade Oak’, 30% of the fruit indigenous yeast barrel-fermented with high solids to 13.2% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 15% new oak equivalence, undergoing batonnage and full MLF. 17.0/20 Oct 2015 RRP $19.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
