Spade Oak The Prospect Ormond Chardonnay 2019, Gisborne

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 01-Sep-2020
Bright, medium yellow with a gold hue, even colour throughout. The nose is coy, gently releasing aromas of lemon, peach, cream, interweaved barrel flint, subtle almond and cashew mix. Medium-full bodied, there is a purity sense of peach, lemon, grapefruit pith, along with hazelnuts, roasted almonds, barrel spices linger with a buttery, creamy palate. The flavours are well-proportioned with define layers, elegant and restrained. The nutty oak and creaminess are controlled and integrated, flows with an aromatic phenolic line, drives with fresh and balanced acidity to a long finish. This is an elegant Chardonnay with well-balanced fruit, nutty barrels and creamy, aromatic phenolic line, lingering to linearity. Match with grilled Tiger prawns and whitefish with beurre blanc over the next 3-5 years. Mendoza clone, handpicked. 100% barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc, 25% new, partial MLF, aged 11 months in French oak. 18.5+/20 pts Sept 2020 RRP $28
