Spade Oak The Prospect Ormond Chardonnay 2018, Gisborne

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 01-Sep-2020
Bright, yellow with some depth and a slight gold-lime hue, even colour throughout. The nose is open and gently full, nuances of barrel flint, almonds, entwined with white peach and lemon. Full-bodied, flavours of peach and lemon are generous, melded with the same intensity almonds and hazelnuts, flint and cream. The mouthfeel is lush and rounded with the creaminess and a light phenolic grip. Supported by lively acidity, which is well-balanced with the intensity of fruit and barrel-fermented nutty, flinty characters, going in strength to a lingering spice finish. This is an appealing Chardonnay with balanced fruit and acid, nutty barrel interest on a creamy palate to a long full-flavoured finish. Match with roasted chicken and crayfish over the next 3-5 years. Cone 548, machine-picked, 100% barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc, 15% new barrels, partial MLF, aged 10 months in French oak. 18.5/20 pts Sept 2020 RRP $28
