Spade Oak The Co-Ordinates Chardonnay 2022, Gisborne

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborne
Review Date : 17-Feb-2023
Bright, even, straw yellow with depth. The nose is gently full, with aromas of a tropical mix of papaya and pineapple melded with bruised peach, spice and toasty elements. Full-bodied, aromas of papaya, melon, pineapple and bruised peach enriched by spice, creamy and hints of toasty nut linger. Medium acidity flows along with creamy and fine-textured phenolics contributing to the mouthfeel and broadness on the palate. This is a stylish Chardonnay with a tropical fruit core, fine texture and balanced toasty elements. Match with pork stew and chicken over the next 3+ years. Fruit from Ormond, clone 95, fermented with high solids in a mix of French oak barrels and a small tank with fire-toasted French oak staves, inoculated MLF. Blended and returned to oak for further ageing on the lees. Overall 35% new oak, 45% MLF, 13.5% alc. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Feb 2023 RRP $29
