Spade Oak ‘Reserve’ Gisborne Viognier 2010

Viognier from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 21-Feb-2013
Viognier from the ‘Spade Oak' vineyard barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc. and 2.78 g/L rs. 5% 2011 Viognier added for balance. 100% MLF. Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The bouquet is full and openly accessible with aromas of ripe, savoury apricots and tropical fruits , nutty oak and buttery MLF forming a complex, funky amalgam revealing waves of detail and nuances. Dry to taste and full-bodied, solidly presented and densely packed flavours of ripe citrus fruits, savoury tropical fruits, apricots and butter meld with nutty, toasty oak. The mouthfeel is soft, creamy and warm with generosity from underlying alcohol power. The acidity is discreet, accentuating the breadth and rounded, fulsome palate and the wine has a sustained, near unctuous finish. This is a full, soft and funky Viognier with creamy textures. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. 17.5/20 Feb 2013 RRP $34.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
