Spade Oak ‘Reserve’ Gisborne Viognier 2009

Viognier from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 14-Feb-2011
Both Gisborne and Hawke's Bay have proven suitable regions for top flight Viognier. It may be the star variety for the Voyseys. This was fermented with wild yeasts to 14.7% alc. and aged 16 months in seasoned oak, 50% undergoing MLF. Bright, light straw yellow with golden hues. Very fresh, this has a steely-edged nose with fine floral lift, perfumes, excellent intensity and depth. Dry on palate with 1.9 g/L rs, this combines an elegance of style with real richness and lusciousness of exotic apricotty fruit, the alcohol and acidity providing excellent proportion and depth. A wine with great line and length, with the potential to develop well over the next 5 years. 150 cases made. 18.5+/20 Oct 2010 RRP $34.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade', the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews' operates
