Spade Oak ‘Heart of Gold’ Gisborne Tempranillo 2014

Tempranillo from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 27-Apr-2016
Tempranillo fruit from the ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in oak with 25% new equivalence. Even ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim with a touch of garnet. This has a very fresh and fragrant, elegantly presented nose of red berry and dark-red cherry fruit intermixed with delicate, piquant herb and spice notes, revealing redcurrant and pomegranate elements. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly bound with refined and pure, vibrant fruit flavours of dark red cherry fruit entwined with redcurrants and red florals, along with herbs, liquorice and spice nuances. The flavours have good intensity and are supported by fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity enhances the aromatic lift and carries the wine to a long, fragrant finish. This is a bright, aromatic Tempranillo with red cherry and herb flavours, fine tannins and a fresh mouthfeel. Match with poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. 17.0/20 Apr 2016 RRP $24.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
