Spade Oak ‘Heart of Gold’ Gisborne St Laurent 2012

Other Red from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 25-Mar-2015
Moderately dark ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is fresh and elegant, quite slender in presentation, with lifted savoury red berry fruits, nuances of dried herbs and spices, and subtle oak detail. Light=medium bodied, the palate is elegant with light, but juicy and lively, savoury red cherry and berry fruit flavours along with dried herb and lifted red floral elements. The wine follows a fine core with brisk acidity and restrained, supple tannins. The extraction is modest and allows accessibility, and the wine leads to a fresh finish carried by the acidity. This is a light-structured, fresh and juicy, St Laurent with lively mouthfeel. Match with Mediterranean fare over the next 3 years. Hand-picked St Laurent fruit with 6% Syrah and 2% Tempranillo from the ‘Spade Oak’ vineyard, destemmed, given a cold soak and wild yeast fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in barrel with 30% new oak equivalence. 16.5+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $24.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
