Soljans Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet/Malbec 2016

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Aug-2018
Even, dark ruby-red colour with some depth, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is fresh with good depth and intensity of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with cassis notes, along with fresh and dark herbs. This has good fragrance and lift, and the aromatics are vibrant and lively. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant in proportion with brisk and lively, lifted herb flavours melded with blackcurrants, blackberries and hints of black plums, unfolding cassis and nuances of mint. The fruit forms a firm core with a positive line with sweetness and concentration, and is supported by fine-grained tannin and structure, with refreshing, lacy acidity. The wine carries with good energy to a lingering, curranty finish. This is a bright and lively Merlot-based blend with flavours of blackcurrants and herbs on a grainy palate. Match with herb-marinated lamb and beef dishes over the next 4-5+ years. Hawke’s Bay fruit, a blend of 68% Merlot, 22% Cabernet and 10% Malbec, fermented to 13.3% alc., the wine aged 21 months in 35% new French oak. 17.5-/20 Aug 2018 RRP $19.00
