Soljans Estate Merlot/ Cabernet/ Malbec 2018, Hawke’s Bay

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Nov-2020
Deep, ruby-red with a black hue and some transparency, slightly lighter on edge. The nose is fresh and full, with aromas of chocolate, vine leaves and mint, melded with plums, red currants and spices. Medium-bodied, fresh aromas of red currants, plums intermix vanilla, milk chocolate and nutmeg. A subtle herbal note lingers with spices on the finish. The wine is youthful and bright with vibrant fruit and lively acidity; the fruit has a leanness integrated with soft extraction of tannins. Subtle details of vine leaves and mint, chocolate and spices are showing the quality of fruit and added interest. This is a bright and lively red blend with flavours of plums, redcurrants and herbs on a fine-grained, soft palate. Match with beef steak with chimichurri and herb-crusted lamb over the next 3-5 years. 17.5/20 pts (88 pts) Nov 2020 RRP $22
