SOHO ‘Valentina’ Waiheke Island Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-Aug-2014
Very dark, near saturated black-hued purple red colour. This has a full, open and voluminous nose of ripe dark plum and black berried fruits revealing boysenberry and raspberry jam elements intermingling with black minerals, earth, black pepper, dark herbs and dusty, spicy oak. Medium-full bodied, rich, ripe and plush fruit flavours of black plums and dark red berryfruit are entwined with liquorice and spicy, sweet and cedary oak. The mouthfeel features bright, lively and racy acidity, underlined by firm and well-concentrated tannins. The extraction builds to provide substantial structure that carries the wine to a very long, lingering finish with spicy oak and earthy nuances. This is a full and open, rich, plummy Syrah with spicy oak, lively acidity, and a structue that grows in presence. Match with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 6+ years. 100% Syrah from SOHO’s Onetangi ‘Jomara’ vineyard, hand-picked and fermented to 14.4% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 44% new French and American oak. 18.0+/20 Aug 2014 RRP $37.00
