SOHO ‘Revolver’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Franc 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 06-May-2013
61% Merlot, 29% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Franc (including a dash of Syrah) from the company’s Onetangi vineyard, fermented to 12.6% alc., the wine aged 12 months in approx. 35% new French oak. Moderately dark ruby-red colour with some black hues at heart, lighter on edge. The bouquet is initially light with aromas of dark redcurrants, berries and plum, along with notes of savoury and aromatic herbs, mint, pepper and red liquorice. The nose is open and accessible, but grows in depth. Medium-bodied and moderately concentrated, sweet fruit flavours of dark plums, redcurrants and berries are supported by supple tannins forming a finely structured core. The fruit sweetness is enhanced by restrained acidity, and the palate has a freshness and elegance. The mouthfeel is softly textured and flows gently to a lingering finish with building depth and notes of savoury herbs with game nuances. This is an elegant, soft-textured Merlot-based blend that grows in richness and textures. Serve with pork, veal and semi hard cheeses over the next 4-5+ years. 16.5+/20 May 2013 RRP $40.00
