SOHO ‘Revolver’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Franc 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 02-May-2012
A blend of 72% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon from the company's Waiheke Island vineyard fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 35% new French oak barriques. Full, dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is elegant with good intensity of ripe dark red plum fruit aromas with spicy oak and fragrant, violetty floral elements. Medium-bodied, fresh, bright dark plum and berry flavours with nutty oak are enhanced by good acidity and supported by fine-grained tannins. This has concentration, a balanced structure and refined mouthfeel. A complex amalgam of black fruits, herbs and oak features on a sustained, soft-textured finish. This is an elegant, youthful Merlot-based wine with the firmness and freshness to develop over the next 5-6+ years. Serve with grilled and roasted red meats, and hard cheeses. 17.5+/20 May 2012 RRP $37.99
