SOHO ‘Revolver’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Cabernet/Malbec 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-Aug-2014
A blend of 42% Melot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Malbec and 12% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Jomara’ vineyard, fermented to 14.0% alc. and aged 10 months in 33% new French oak. Full, dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is gently voluminous with fragrant redcurrant, dark plum and dark red berry fruits at the core, opening up to reveal layers of pepper, liquorice, tar and spicy oak. Medium-full bodied, sweet and aromatic fruit flavours of redcurrants, plums and herbs intermingle with spicy oak. The palate is underlined by a fine tannin core forming a supple line. The mouthfeel shows slightly elevated acidity and adds a racy energy and tension to the flow, which carries the wine to a moderately long and sustained finish. This is a sweet, fruited Merlot-based wine with curranty and spicy oak flavours, a firm core and fresh mouthfeel. Serve with beef and lamb, Mediterranean fare and semi-hard cheeses over the next 6-8 years. 18.0/20 Aug 2014 RRP $37.00
