SOHO ‘Revolver’ Waiheke Island Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Malbec 2014

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-Sep-2015
Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour. The nose is refined in expression with tightly bound and elegantly concentrated aromas of spicy dark plums with redcurrant notes, along with subtle violet floral elements and some toasty oak. The aromatics are integrated and unveil leafy, herb and earthy detail with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a tight and refined core of sweet black berried and black plum fruits melded with spices and florals, revealing subtle curranty elements. The fruit has intensity and depth. Fine-grained powdery tannin extraction and structure balances the fruit richness, lending a firm, dry, textured line. The acidity is integrated and adds to the drive and tension as the wine carries to a long, elegant finish of florals, spicy plums and toasty oak. This is an elegant and concentrated, aromatic blend of Merlot, Franc and Malbec with spicy plummy fruit and a fine-grained structure. Match with roasted red meat dishes over the next 7-9 years. A blend of 46% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 19% Malbec, and 5% each Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-picked from the company’s ‘Jomara’ vineyard, Onetangi, fermented to 14.6% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 26% new and 1 y.o. French oak barrels. 18.0+/20 Sep 2015 RRP $37.00
