SOHO ‘McQueen’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 28-May-2013
Dark, deep, black-hued red, a little lighter on rim. The nose is elegantly proportioned, with good depth of aromatic, lifted black cherry and black berried fruits, revealing notes of liquorice, minerals, pepper and oak spices. Medium-full bodied, this has well-concentrated flavours of ripe black berry and cherry fruit, complexed with minerals, dark herbs and gamey interest. The mouthfeel is bright and lively with brisk acidity present, and firm, grainy tannins provide positive structure underlining the fruit. The fruit sweetness is poised and balanced with the sinewy texture and the palate has the power to carry to a long, sustained finish of black fruits and spices. This is a concentrated black-fruited Pinot Noir with liveliness and plenty of tannin structure. Match with roasted red meat dishes and firm cheeses over the next 6-7 years. Fruit from Gibbston and Bannockburn, hand-picked and fermented with 30% whole bunch to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 40% new French oak. 18.0+/20 May 2013 RRP $44.00 Fruit from Gibbston and Bannockburn, hand-picked and fermented with 30% whole bunch to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 40% new French oak. Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. Finely presented aromas of black cherries and dark plums are lifted by violetty florals, along with thyme herb and exotic spice notes unfolding. Medium-bodied, this has good depth and powerfully intense black cherry and ripe plum fruit flavours, intermixed with herbs. The oaking is balanced and adds to the spice elements. Fine, supple tannins and acidity provide good tension and energises the palate line which leads to a long, fine-textured dry finish with dark aromatic fruit nuances. This is a medium-bodied, classical Central Otago Pinot Noir with subtle power and bright, lively fruit. Match with roast duck and pork over the next 5-7 years. 18.0+/20 Aug 2012 RRP $44.00
