SOHO ‘Carter’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 18-Mar-2015
Bright straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The nose is very fresh and tight, quite elegant in proportion, with aromas of white and yellow stonefruits, gradually unveiling complexing nut and mineral elements along with oak toast detail. This grows in intensity, showing rich citrus fruit notes with aeration. Medium-bodied, softly concentrated flavours of yellow stonefruits show with a delicate sweetness and lusciousness. Complexing layers of nutty lees, citrus fruits and oak toast unfold adding interest. This has real weight and presence, and the palate has excellent power and linearity with refined textures alongside crisp, refreshing acidity. The mouthfeel has concentration allied to poise, and the flavours carry through to a very long, dry mouthwatering finish. This is an elegant and youthfully tight, concentrated Chardonnay with luscious stonefruit flavours and subtle nutty, toasty detail. It will develop greater intensity and richness over the next 5+ years. Match with seafood, poultry and pork dishes. Fruit from the company’s Onetangi vineyard fully barrel-fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine aged approx. 9 months in 28% new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and a small portion through MLF. 18.0+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $37.00
