SOHO ‘Carter’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 10-Apr-2014
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light green-golden hues. This has a very elegant and refined nose with tightly bound citrus fruits infused waxy elements, melded with nutty barrel-ferment aromas and toasty oak nuances. The bouquet is expressed with freshness and clarity. Medium-full bodied but elegantly proportioned, intense and tightly restrained flavours of citrus fruits show great precision and linearity. Nutty oak, toast and stonefruit detail adds interest and subtle layers. The mouthfeel is very fine-featured with crisp acid poise and tension, but a creaminess and underlying alcohol power emerges, carrying the flavours to a full, warm and generous finish. This is a tight and classy Chardonnay with fine barrel-ferment textures and fresh acidity. It will develop greater richness and interest over the next 5 years. Serve with seafood and poultry. A single vineyard wine, made from hand-picked clone 15 and 95 fruit from SOHO’s Onetangi site, fully barrel-fermented to 14.7% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 33% new French oak barriques. 18.5-/20 Apr 2014 RRP $38.00
