SOHO ‘Carter’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 28-Aug-2012
Clone 15 and 95 fruit from the SOHO ‘Jomara' vineyard, the fruit hand-picked and WBP, barrel-fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 9 months in approx. 35% new French oak and given batonnage. Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, pale on rim. The bouquet is very firm and intense with concentrated, aromas of ripe nectarines and peaches, with complex nutty oxidative and mealy notes along with flinty lees complexities. Dry, full-bodied and solidly packed with nutty, mealy, stonefruit flavours, there are layers of nutty, oxidative elements intermixed with flinty reductive and lees flavours. The wine has good power, weight and a fulsome mouthfeel, in a dry, near-textural style. The flavours are very long and lingering with nutty elements featuring. This is a full-bodied, intense, nutty Chardonnay with oxidative and flinty interest in the classical white burgundy style reminiscent of Chassagne-Montrachet. Serve with poultry and pork over the next 4-5+ years. 18.5-/20 Aug 2012 RRP $31.00
