SOHO ‘Carter’ Waiheke Island Chardonnay 2010

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 24-Jun-2011
Fruit from the company's ‘Onetangi' vineyard, fermented to 14.5% alc. and matured in 25% new French oak. Winemaker Pete Turner. Pale straw-yellow colour with a pale edge, this has a very fine and tightly bound bouquet of white peaches, minerals and subtle creamy-nutty barrel-ferment aromas supporting the fruit. Showing excellent power on the palate, this is a concentrated wine with finely expressed stonefruit and nutty flavours with notes of smoke and toast from the oak in the background. Very fine-textured, the wine is still very youthful and fresh with the acidity providing tension carrying through to the long, nutty nuanced finish. This is a sophisticated Chardonnay that will develop well over the next 5-6 years. Serve with full-flavoured seafood, pork and veal dishes, and with hard cheeses. 18.0/20 Jun 2011 RRP $35.99
