Soho Carter Chardonnay 2019, Waiheke Island

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 25-Sep-2020
Bright, pale yellow with a faintly lime hue, even colour throughout. The nose is coy, softly penetrating nuances of lemon balm, grapefruit, stonefruit, smoky gunflint and a light note of cream, underlying mouthwatering minerals. Medium-bodied, the palate is lean and elegantly presented, aromas of lemon, grapefruit and zest are interwoven with lemon biscuit, flintiness and cream. Flavours are well in proportion, on a fine-textured chalky mineral line, refine and elegant. Acidity is soft and lacy, integrated and tightly bound with primary fruit and exquisite oak element, supported by underlying alcohol power, lingers to a sustained finish. This is an elegantly supple Chardonnay with integrated aromas of citrus fruit, lemon biscuit and flinty notes, on a fine-textured mineral drive. Match with whitebait and whitefish over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from Carter’s Jomara Vineyard, Onetangi. 13.5% alc, 30% new oak. 18.5/20 pts Sept 2020 RRP $45
