SOHO ‘Blue Blood Reserve’ ‘Zabeel’ Waiheke Island 2013

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 15-Jun-2015
Very dark, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a tightly concentrated, elegantly presented nose of ripe, rich black berried fruits with a core of iron-earth, minerals, tar and black pepper, along with chocolate and spice notes. Aromatic oak adds an exotic layering to the fruit. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a tight and concentrated, deep heart of ripe blackberry and plummy fruit. Subtle layers of minerals and earth unfold, and aromatic spices, exotic oak vanilla and cedar elements emerge providing detail and interest. The wine is supported by very fine-grained tannin extraction and structure, and follows a tight line. The fruit sweetness and cedary, spicy oak are carried to a very long, succulent finish with very fine textures. This is an elegant, concentrated, succulently rich Merlot blend with exotic spicy and cedary oak. Match with lamb, beef, venison and hard cheeses over the next 8-9+ years. A blend of 65% Merlot, 20% Syrah and 15% Malbec, the fruit hand-picked from SOHO’s ‘Jomara’ vineyard at Onetangi, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 100% Alain Fouquet French oak, 80% new. 19.0/20 Jun 2015 RRP $138.00
