Smoking Loon California Old Vine Zinfandel 2015

Zinfandel from USA
Review Date : 24-Apr-2017
Dark, deep, black and purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on the rim, youthful in appearance. The nose is fresh and bright with vibrantly ripe fruit aromas of boysenberries and blueberries, along with notes of jam and dark herbs, and subtle earthy elements. This is elegantly proportioned, showing good depth and intensity. Medium-full bodied, the palate possesses up-front, rich and sweetly ripe fruit flavours of blackberries, boysenberries and blueberries, along with rich notes of jam, along with spices, herbs and nuances of liquorice, The fruit is supported by fine, grainy tannin structure, and the wine has balancing alcohol power and integrated acidity. The wine carries to a sustained, nuanced finish of black and blur fruits, jam and spices. This is a plush, juicy and ripe Zinfandel with blackberry, boysenberry and blueberry fruit with jam and herb notes on a fine, grainy structured palate. Match with barbecued fare, Middle Eastern cuisine and game meat dishes over the next 3-4 years. A blend of 93% Zinfandel, 4% Merlot and 3% Petite Sirah from California, fermented to 14.0% alc., and given French oak contact. 18.0-/20 Apr 2017 RRP $25.00
