Smith & Sheth Omahu Syrah 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Sep-2023
Full, deep purple, lighter on the rim. This complex and alluring bouquet is packed with ripe blackberry, dark plum, violet, minty herbs, cured meat and an amalgam of spice. Full-bodied, aromas of blackberry and plum entwined with deep violet, herbs, nutmeg, clove and cured meat. Densely weaved fine-grained tannins left a velvety mouthfeel, reflecting dark minerals and floral fragrance. Integrated lively acidity carries concentrated fruit and spice to a lengthy, opulent finish. This age-worthy Syrah shows refined complex layers structured by fine-weaved tannins and radiant acidity. Match with venison and grilled lamb over the next 12+ years. Fruit from the Gimblett Gravels, destemmed, with a small portion of whole bunch, aged in French oak barriques and foudre for 22 months, 40% new oak. 14% alc. 19.5-/20 pts (96 pts) Aug 2023 RRP $80
