Smith & Sheth Omahu Cantera 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Sep-2023
Full, deep ruby with a slight hint of brick, lighter on the rim. The posied bouquet penetrates with cassis, plum, and red berries aromas interweaved with leather, spice and blackcurrant leaf. Full-bodied, aromas of ripe cassis, plum and red berries have a lush core, unfolding savoury herbs, leather, clove and peppery nuances. The mouthfeel is dense and inky with fine-grained tannins, along with rich minerals. Fine acidity refreshes the dense palate and provides vitality, driving a long, elegant finish. This Cabernet blend is rich and complex with bright fruit, acidity and a velvety fine-grained structure. Match with braised short ribs and steak with truffle sauce over the next 12+ years. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Cabernet Franc, 100% destemmed, underwent MLF in tank, then aged in French oak barriques for 21 months, 60% new oak, 14.5% alc. 19.5/20 (97 pts) Aug 2023 RRP $80
