Smith & Sheth Heretaunga Cabernet Franc 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 19-Feb-2021
Deep ruby-black with a purple hue, slight lighter edged. The nose is fragrant and softly full, nuances of red currents, red plums, entwined with a veil of spice, blackcurrant leaf underlined alcohol power. Medium-full bodied, lovely concentrated aromas of red berries, cassis and red plums, interweave herbaceous notes of blackcurrant leaf, cedar and a hint of floral. The mouthfeel is silky with fine, supple tannin, a full mid-palate filled with herbs, spice and meatiness. Fluid acidity has good energy and drive, lends a juicy red-fruited finish. This is a true to character Cabernet Franc with well-proportioned succulent red fruit, herbaceous details and supple, fine-grained tannin palate. Match with herb-crusted lamb and hare over the next 5 years. Fruit from old vines in Howell Vineyard in Bridge Pa, fermented to 13.5% alc. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Feb 2021 RRP $50
