Smith & Sheth CRU Omahu Cantera 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 21-Sep-2022
Full, deep purple with a ruby-red core, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose slowly opens up to a full bouquet, with depth and intensity, packed with cassis, blackberry and boysenberry entwined with violet, vine leaf, herb, coca and cedar. Full-bodied, aromas of cassis, blackberry and boysenberry have a savoury core, unfolding violet, vine leaf herbaceous elements; warm cocoa and cedar, along with stony minerals, lend a sustained, mouth-filling finish. The mouthfeel is dense, rich and powerful, packed with fine-grained tannin and a gravelly line of mineral texture. Acidity is integrated and supportive, providing drive and vitality. This Gimblett Gravels red blend is highly concentrated and structured, showing black fruit and herbaceous details on a fine-grained palate and excellent cellaring potential. Serve decanted and match with tomahawk over the next 12+ years. A blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Tempranillo and 21% Cabernet Franc, 100% destemmed, co-fermented to 14.5% alc, MLF in tank, then transferred to new Fench (60%) and seasoned American (40%) oak barriques for 21 months. Vegan friendly. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) Sep 2022 RRP $80
