Smith & Sheth CRU Heretaunga Cabernet Franc 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-May-2023
Deep, dark ruby-red with a purple hue, lighter on edge. It has a mealy, savoury bouquet packed with aromas of cassis, blueberry, violet, tobacco leaf, blackcurrant leaf, dark minerals and spices. Medium-full bodied, aromas of cassis and blueberry melded with violet, blackcurrant leaf, nutmeg unfolds, tobacco, and dark minerals. The inky, concentrated fruit fills the palate, and velvety tannins contribute to a firm structure and linger with fine acidity, injecting vibrancy. This brilliantly structured Cabernet Franc is broody and velvety with attractive fruit, minerals, weight and texture. Match with venison backstrap and sirloin steak over the next 8+ years. Fruit from Bridge Pa and Omahu vineyards, old vine, fermented to 13.5% alc, aged in fine French oak barriques. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) May 2023 RRP $40
