Smith & Sheth CRU Heretaunga Cabernet Franc 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 21-Sep-2022
Deep, full purple-black, even colour throughout. The nose is attractive and full, with bright aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry interweave vine leaf, minerals and spice. Full-bodied, aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry melded with vine leaf, red earth, vanilla and cedar. The mouthfeel is smooth with fine-grained tannin extraction, lacy acidity supports and carries to a long, spiced finish. This Cabernet Franc shows concentrated fruit and varietal on a rich, fine-grained palate and mineral-rich, lengthy finish. Match with Wagyu bavette and lamb steak over the next 5-8 years. Fruit from 24 y.o. vines in Howell vineyard Bridge Pa, handpicked, gently destemmed with a large percentage of whole berries, pumped over once daily during fermentation, aged 14 months in barrel. 14% alc. No fining, vegan friendly. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Sep 2022 RRP $40
