Smith & Sheth CRU Heretaunga Albarino 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Albarino from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 19-Feb-2021
Bright, light straw-yellow with some depth, even colour throughout. The nose is full and welcoming; nuances of ripe stonefruit, honeysuckle intermix a light dusting of spice and barrel flint. Medium-full bodied, a complex palate with aromas of ripe peach, nectarine, lime entwined with honeysuckle; enriched by a little caramelization, barrel flint and spice. Chalky mouthfeel adorns by subtle barrel weight; integrated acidity remains focus carry concentrated fruit and barrel spice elements in harmony. This is the Albarino of my dreams, with personality and finesse; elegant and complex with stonefruit flavour, honeysuckle and sleek oak seasoning on a textural palate. Match with bacon-wrapped scallops and sardines over the next 5 years. Fruit from Howell's vineyard in Bridge Pa. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed. Barrel-fermented to 14%, partial MLF and aged with a small percentage of new oak. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Feb 2020 RRP $35
