Smith & Sheth CRU Heretauga Syrah 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-May-2023
Full, deep purple, lighter on edge. The nose is full and vibrant with aromas of bramble, plum, raspberry, floral and subtle spice. Medium-full bodied, savoury aromas filled the palate, unfolding blackberry, plum, raspberry, and violet, extended by black pepper, liquorice and meaty nuances. The dense mouthfeel shows concentrated fruit and a fine-weaved tannin framework; savoury nuance overlays the juicy acidity, finishing with enticing subtle bitterness. This Syrah and mouth-filling and savoury, packed with dark fruit and concentration, velvety tannins and a fine acid line. Match with braised short ribs and roasted lamb shoulder over the next 6-8 years. Fruit from Gimblett Gravels and Magatahi vineyards, handpicked, fermented to 13.5% alc, aged in French oak barriques. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) May 2023 RRP $40
