Small Theory Omihi Limestone Pinot Noir 2014, North Canterbury

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 10-May-2022
Deep ruby red with a faint hint of garnet, lighter on the rim. The nose is soft and lifted; aromas of red cherries, dried cranberries, dried red dates interweave herb and spice, savoury nuances and a hint of minerals. Medium-bodied, dried cranberries, dates and cherries have an elegant core, baking spices elevated, unfolding dark minerals and savoury elements. Silky mouthfeel reflects supple and mellowed tannins, delicate spices develop over time, and dark herbs add interest. Lacy acidity provides an excellent backbone and vitality. The wine is harmonious, with elegant features and a delicate, long finish; it shows signs of development yet is fresh and youthful. Match with poached duck breast and pork rillettes over the next 5 years. Handpicked, hand-sorted, indigenous yeasts fermented to 13.7% alc, a month of skin maceration, aged in French oak barrels, 1/6 new oak. 1,740 bottles produced. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) May 2022 RRP $
