Silver Wing Waipara Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Nov-2014
Bright golden yellow colour with some depth, lighter on rim. The bouquet is full, deep and solidly packed with aromas of lifted yellow stonefruits infused with subtle nutty and steely mineral elements. Complexing wax and oak notes emerge with florals and marmalade nuances adding interest. Off-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the flavours of citrus and yellow stonefruits are enhanced by nuts, florals and honeysuckle, building to form a weighty core with good palate presence and mouthfeel. Lacy acidity enhances the fruit sweetness and lusciousness and the wine flows with good power and drive. Fine phenolic textures underline the fruit, leading to a harmonious, elegant, lingering dry finish. This is a fulsome, weighty, off-dry Pinot Gris with a harmonious mouthfeel. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4+ years. Hand-picked Waipara fruit with 5-10% botrytis infection, 50% WBP and 50% given skin contact, fermented with 25% in barrel to 13.5% alc. and 8.8 g/L RS., the wine aged in tank and barrel undergoing batonnage, the barrel portion undergoing MLF. 18.0/20 Nov 2014 RRP $21.00
