Silver Wing Waipara Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 22-Oct-2014
Barrie, 2/16 and 2/15 clone fruit from the ‘Georges Road’ vineyard from 7 y.o. vines, hand-picked and given overnight skin contact, and fermented, one-third in seasoned oak to 14.0% alc. and 7 g/L RS, the wine aged 12 months with batonnage. 10% of the wine is early-pick Chardonnay blended in. Bright straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues. This has a light and restrained nose with light, savoury white stonefruit aromas with nuances of honeysuckle, nuts and oxidative elements. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, light flavours of bitter stonefruit kernels are melded with honeysuckle and nutty, oxidative notes. The acidity is discreet and lends a degree of freshness. The palate has presence and underlying phenolic textures along with alcoholic power and drive, leading to a shy finish with nuts and bitter stonefruits. This is a dry Pinot Gris with shy nutty flavours and good weight and some alcoholic power. Serve with most white meat dishes over the next 3+ years. 16.5/20 Oct 2014 RRP $24.00
