Silver Wing ‘Reserve; Waipara Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 08-Mar-2017
Dark ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is fragrant with an amalgam of strawberries, dark cherries and plums, unfolding red florals and suggestions of dried herbs and savoury earth, building in depth with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate has gently rich flavours of strawberries, cherries and soft red plum notes entwined with lifted red florals and fragrant oak, revealing savoury herb and earthy detail. The fruit is supported by balanced, fine-grained tannins lending a gently textured mouthfeel, and the palate I enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. The fruit flows with good energy leading to a sustained finish of strawberries and cherries intermingling with herb notes. This is a gently rich Pinot Noir with strawberry and plum flavours, balanced structure and good energy. Match with duck and pork dishes over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 777, 667 and 5, from the Williams Family vineyard, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and co-fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 25% new French oak. Bottles unfined and unfiltered. 17.5+/20 Mar 2017 RRP $40.00
