Silver Wing ‘Reserve’ Waipara Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Nov-2014
Hand-picked fruit, 40% clone 5 and 30% each 777 and 667 from the ‘Williams Family’ vineyard, Omihi Hill, destemmed, given a cold soak, indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 15% new French oak, then given another 12 months in seasoned oak. Even ruby-red colour with garnet hues on rim. This has a bright, aromatic nose, with lifted, piquant, savoury red floral and berry fruits, revealing red plums and ethereal cedar and spice elements. Full-bodied, the palate features lifted red berry fruit flavours interwoven with cherry liqueur notes. The wine is finely concentrated with fine-grained tannins and fresh, lacy acidity providing a good palate line. This has sweetness and succulence, and as the wine flows, floral spice and cedar nuances unfold, carrying through to an elegantly dry, fine-grained, sustained finish. This is a full-bodied, but fine-grained, lifted Pinot Noir with cherry liqueur and spice flavours. Serve with poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 18.0-/20 Nov 2014 RRP $45.00
