Silver Wing ‘Reserve’ Waipara Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 08-Mar-2017
Bright, light golden colour with some depth, paler edged. The nose is elegant in presentation with good depth and firmly concentrated aromas of yellow stonefruits with nutty and mineral elements, along with waxy suggestions and a complexing oxidative line. Medium-bodied, the palate is finely concentrated with a firm, tight core of white stonefruits, nutty and waxy notes along with integrated oxidative detail. The palate has a fresh acid edge and a light, refined, textural line that carries to a lingering, nutty finish. This is a firm and tightly bound, near austere Chardonnay with white stonefruit, nutty, waxy and oxidative flavours and a fresh mouthfeel. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the Church Road block, Omihi, vines planted in 1996, 40% destemmed and given skin contact, 60% WBP, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 15% new Hungarian oak with batonnage and 90% MLF. Bottled unfiltered and unfined. 16.5/20 Mar 2017 RRP $38.00
