Sileni Estates ‘The Pacemaker’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Franc 2009

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Feb-2011
The second release of ‘The Pacemaker', made from fruit from Don and Jean Brown's ‘Demak Brae' vineyard near the Sileni winery, fermented to 13.5% alc., then aged 14 months in 85% French and 15% American oak barriques. Very dark purple hued ruby-red in colour, this has an elegant, restrained nose of fresh raspberry and dark berry fruits along with a steely edge. Medium-full bodied, this is elegantly proportioned, with tightly bound red and dark berry flavours enriched with spicy, sweet oak flavours providing lift and shine. The ripeness and aromatic nature of the fruit expression grows in the glass. The tannin extraction is fine and more significant than initial impressions suggest, and the finesse and firmness will enable this wine to develop over the next 6-8+ years. Match with grilled and roasted red meat dishes. 17.5+/20 Feb 2011 RRP $32.00
